Social Action Project! Where can I donate craft-like toys (stuffed animals mostly) for needy or sick children?
girlie asked:
I am coordinating an activity to give back to the community for my youth group. What I want to do is get a bunch of craft kits from AC Moore, make them with the youth group as the activity, and then donate them to a hospital, orphanage, or someplace like the sort. I live in Maryland and I think my group would like to give the toys somewhere in close proximity…so anywhere in the state, out of state is ok too, just not top choice. Thanks!

The problem with those kits are they are not rated as child safe.
So a hospital will not accept them. The fabric is not fire rated and the eyes are not permanent. Much easier and cheaper if you buy one teddy bear pattern and the fabric. You can make a simple cuddly teddy and use permanent marker for the face. Some police depts. like to keep teddy bears in the car in case they respond to an incident where children are involved. Hope this helps
