What’s the best way to “disinfect” my son’s stuffed toys?
rikki_jo asked:
My 2 year old son had pink eye last week and it was almost gone, then it returned to both eyes.
I think that the stuffed animals he sleeps with need to be disinfected. I am thinking about just chancing it and throwing them in the washer. I guess I can always get new ones if they get ruined. Does putting them in a pillowcase on gentle work well?
I have ready many things and just wanted to see if anyone has any new ideas.
Thanks in advance!

My son sleeps with a Tye beannie baby dog. I throw it in the washing machine often. It comes out fine.
send it for laundry ? they have special equips for washing different things.
well just putting it in the washer wont disinfect it!
check your washer for a snaitize cycle and that shoudl do the trick!
stick them in the freezer kills dust mites
You could spray them with Lysol Disinfectant spray and then put them in the dryer on high heat to kill off the germs. That’s what I did with my son’s favorite stuffed animal after he had the flu. It just wasn’t possible to fit it in the washer and I didn’t want it to get ruined in the wash.
It seemed to work just fine for him. If you’d rather wash them, use Clorox 2 and use hot water on the gentle cycle and dry medium to low heat. I just didn’t want to take a chance on the stuffed animal not drying all the way through if I washed them in the wash and then having mildew growing inside the toy.
I normally put them into a pillowcase, and put them in the washing machine on a wool wash.
Wrap them in plastic and put them in the freezer for 2 days. You’ll probably have to do one at a time. It kills germs and dust mites.
Pu them in the freezer first for 48hrs (in a carrier/polythene bag), then wash them in the machine.
Thats what I do, apparently freezing first kills any mites more than simply washing them.
