Bothered and upset by stuffed animals?

wilted_ficuss asked:

I’m almost 20, and i have this really weird problem: for a long time now, whenever I see stuffed animal toys, like teddy bears and such, they bother me for some reason. I’m not scared of them or anything, but for some reason, looking at them makes me want to cry. I even had to hide the few childhood stuffed animals I have, because even they upset me. I get even more upset if I see something (on tv for example) where stuffed animals get destroyed, or torn up. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, but its really stressing me out lately and I don’t know why! Does anyone else have this issue? I don’t want to see a therapist or something over this, it seems to stupid. But it legitimately stresses me out. I don’t think they scare me or anything, but seeing these types of toys just legitimately makes me want to cry. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Okay, bear with me as I attempt to psychoanalyze…

I’m wondering if maybe it has to with childhood issues you might have. Did you have an unhappy childhood… So that the stuffed animals remind of you of sadder times?

Or alternatively, did you have a happy childhood that you really really miss. And now looking at the animals, it reminds you of those happy times that you miss so much?

A therapist is just someone who you can reveal your problem to in a confidential and trusting environment. They also are trained to bring out solutions to problems. A friend can serve the same role although they might not be totally knowledgeable about the problems of the psyche. Tell a friend about it and try to get to the root of the problem.

If you can’t figure out what’s causing the problum by yourself, you do need to see a therapist because its more than just a little problem if your twenty and cry because of toys.

my stuffed animals bother my fiance but thats just because i make them into horny sex addicts yearning for her rack. other than that get rid of your stuffed animals. stuffed animals are for people who like them.

Weird……..I think you should really see a doctor if it really bothers you that much…it wouldn’t be stupid if it really concerns you that much.

My advice that probably won’t work: Hug a stuff animal. (lol you probably shouldn’t try it though)

well you caught me at the part where you dont want to see a Doctor. thats what i was going to mention. i kind of have that issue i cant sleep with any stuffed animals they scare me at night times and then i freak out. i would say just to talk to someone it dosent have to be a pro it can be a friend or ask your parents if you had any bad childhood experiences with them.

It is an obsession, and it could have childhood causes that you don’t remember.

Yes, it’s not stupid to see someone over a phobia of any kind; even something as benign as stuffed animals.

It’s NOT STUPID to seek help on this. It appears to really upset you, and some people seek help because seeing things like brooms or spiders or getting in an elevator freaks them out.

It’s obessive and a phobia. Find help, or at least do some research online about phobias.

maybe you feel like this because in the back of your mind you are thinking that they are real animals trapped in that form. Or possibly it goes back into your child hood when something made you feel this way about them and then you locked away that memory but it tortures you trying to escape.

    dont go to build-a-bear workshop!

but i agree with everyone else and that it has to do
with your childhood and missing it or it was bad and
    the stuffed animals resembles it.

You have a phobia. A lot of people are afraid of things that would not ordinarily bother anybody else…or at least not to the extent that they bother them. I become hysterical when I come within a few yards of bridges and overpasses. Hypnosis seems to work well with exagerated fears, if you feel it’s disrupting your life so much that you need help. I wouldn’t be afraid of seeing someone for this…they deal with these things all the time, and will probably help you understand what it stems from! Good luck to you.
