How do I clean my boyfriend’s childhood stuffed animal?

hallowedmoon2 asked:

“Joshua” is an off-white bear with overalls, no shiny/silky fur, just your typical bear fur. (He gave it to me the other day because I was telling him that I wish I had a bear with his cologne on it to sleep with while I was away in college) Anyway, I’m mildly allergic to dust, and the poor thing has been sitting in his closet for about 15 years. He has a tear by his nose, and I’m worried that washing him will ruin him…is there any merit to the freezer method? (Leaving the toy in the freezer overnight to kill the dust mites) I was just going to wipe the outside down with some baking soda or laundy soap and water, it’s the inside I’m concerned about…thanks!

If you can read the tag on it that should tell you how to clean it. If not take it to a dry cleaners and see what they say.

put it in a lingerie mesh bag and throw it in the washing machine on gentle cycle. i did this with my beloved childhood stuffed animal (and my sisters) and they came out just fine. clean as new. but you’d have to spray cologne on it again….

heat kills mites. put it in the dryer for 20 mins and or let it hang in the sunlight for a full bright sunny day.

    Oxy Clean.

It will remove most stains and odors.

According to the stuffing you may have to suds clean it’s exterior, or if it is washable you can us a wet solution and allow it to drip dry.

Do not put in dryer unless on fragile if allowable by material instructions.

The big question is whether it is simply accumulated dust and dirt contamination.

The best way to wash stuffed animals is to put them in a pillow case and tie it close. Use mild soap (like zero) and wash in the delicate cycle of washing machine. Air dry.
