Smoke covered stuffed animals?

pocbr asked:

I used to smoke in the house. NOW I DON’T The stuffed animal toys are now sort of brown tinged from the smoke and nicotine. They have been in storage for about a year while the house was remodeled, hence the no smoking in the house now. I want to bring them back into the house. but I really need to clean them. Really bad need to clean them. the whites are sort of dirty brown.
Any suggestions please. Pretty please.

most stuff animal need hand washing, so you would need to soak them in laundry detergent with some color safe bleach over night and then ring out and dry.

When I quit smoking, my house smelled horrible! I wanted to clean and freshen ‘Everything’ up. My dd had gobs of stuffed animals. I wasn’t confident enough to put them in the washer (didn’t know if the eyes, bows, nose ect.. would fall off) so I put them in the dryer on permanent press and low-heat with a white T-shirt dampened with white vinegar and 3 tennis balls. I didn’t want to use fabric sheets, they would hide the smell but not clean the animals. The stuffed animals came out clean, fluffy, smelling fresh and all parts intact

You can safely wash these stuffed toys in one cup of White Vinegar full cycle do not soak then dried in the dryer on low placed inside a pillow case do not add any detergent to vinegar while this method is being used you will weaken the vinegar and it will not clean or deodorize as well, vinegar will clean and deodorize your stuffed toys and make them like new again, then place in dryer as directed above Good Luck !

My daughter has allergies and zoo of stuffed animals. I have washed them all in the washer with a bleach alternative like clorox. My dogs also have small stuffed animals and they get dirty every week when they cart the things outside. If you are worried about eyes or anything else put them in the fabric wash bags for delicate items and put on a delicate cycle. Most of mine are washed on regular cycle but I never dry them. The heat can mess up the fur depending on the material and how much you paid for them. Drying in the dryer wears out clothing more anyway. I must admit, I have also bleached some but it is hard to know which ones are bleach friendly. Good luck. Too bad we can’t do this process to our lungs huh?
